break even series

30/4/2021

SCOOP and GG Spring Festival started pretty rough, I've lost almost 9.5k first 7 or 10 days, which is the biggest downswing in terms of money lost due date for me. After the bad start, I managed to finish 3rd in Marathon on GG for 12k as well as finish 3rd in hot 109 to secure break-evenish series. I lost money overall, however I sold a lot of action to ME satellites, so if we exclude sats, I'm in profit, so I think I can say that April 2021 was a break even month.

Total ROI being lower then average, means that I didn't perform well on higher stakes. Most likely a mix of not playing optimally and running bad. Overall, this series taught me many things that I will list down below.

  • Players playing 109s on daily basis are still making a lot of fundamental mistakes. I was giving average player too much credit which led to me calling indifferent hands and not adjusting vs what I would call, too tight population.
  • My preflop game needs some work, especially multiway and MP vs MP/EP. I ignored a little bit of that part of the game and was mainly focusing on postflop stuff, which led to some preflop mistakes in game.
  • I should be questioning my opponents' lines a little more and avoid an approach of 'it's not a thing, so it has to be wrong'. Always question and think about why his line might be better then equilibrium.
  • My mindset needs some work. I guess it's only when AFS is very large and variance is massive, but I found myself being unhappy with losing and caring about run-outs and running bad a little too often. Something that I had no problems with when playing SNGs in the past, or tournaments in the mornings recently. Playing higher stakes also affected me a little bit.
  • Playing big AFS and evening/night schedule made me realise that it only takes 1 tournament to win and we are break even or winning in a month.
  • I should be focusing more on which tournaments I enter and what is the average stack. I found myself punt registering PKOs too late as well as registering into some 109 reg-fest small field games, because of boredom and lack of tables late at night.
  • During the series I hit the biggest downswing up to date, which definitely made me stronger player and made me appreciate morning grind more.
  • Because all of us were playing a lot during series, we didn't have time to do much off table work together. This had impact on my in game decision making and confidence. It made me appreciate our work as a team even more. Those sessions are very powerful. We will be back on track from next week.
  • I sold a lot of action to satellites to main events. I really appreciate the team trusting in my abilities, but I also disliked additional pressure it puts on me. I wanted to perform and make everyone happy, which made me care a little bit too much and I got emotionally invested into the process, which I should have avoided. Staking also takes a lot of focus when you have to fill in the spreadsheets while playing as well as reply to messages and screen the lobbies for best sats running, as GGpoker was cancelling and creating new sats on the go. Something I didn't enjoy as much.
  • I think April series made me a stronger player overall, showcased some leaks in my mindset and technical abilities as well as made me appreciate low variance morning schedule a lot more.

Coaching.
  • I decided to limit the 1on1 coachings and only accept professionals and players playing mid stakes.
  • I will continue doing weekly webinars for my discord server

Back to the morning grind. Back to good routines. Back to the lab.

I wish all of you best of luck!
